Have you ever been surprised by the results of your workers’ compensation audit or received an unexpected change to your policy or premium bill?  Many times, an employer doesn't dive deeper into their workers' comp policy until they receive a bump up in their premium bill.  By that time, it's too late to ask the questions or make the corrections necessary to decrease that premium.

This webinar will help you understand the Essential Things Employers Should Know About Workers’ Compensation. Robin McGuire, Policy Ombudsman of the Workers Compensation Insurance Relations Board of California, will present information on the many questions she receives from employers.

Attendees will learn about factors that impact premium:

  • The standard classification assigned to your business: why it’s important to get it right
  • Standard Exception Classifications: Clerical Office Employees, Clerical Telecommuter Employees, and Outside Salespersons
  • Timecard/Recordkeeping Requirements for the Division of Payroll and Dual Wage Construction Classifications
  • Experience Modifications: what are they and how are they determined?
  • How do changes in ownership (buying or selling a business) impact experience rating
  • When is the payroll and loss history for separate businesses combinable for experience rating purposes?
  • Status: Employee or Independent Contractor?
  • When can business owners be excluded from workers’ compensation coverage?

Robin will also discuss the Dispute Process and how her office can provide free resources that help you obtain assistance with your workers’ compensation questions.

Robin McGuire is the Policyholder Ombudsman at the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California. She has been with the WCIRB since 1998. Robin works directly with employers to help them understand California insurance regulations applicable to their workers’ compensation policies and resolve workers’ compensation insurance related issues.
